via WaterSISWEB: The New Zealand Green party is looking stupid for wanting to ban H2O:
In an email response to a spoof highlighting all the dangers and deaths from water, Green MP Sue Kedgley's office said she was 'absolutely supportive' of a ban on dihydrogen monoxide in New Zealand.I remember seeing Penn and Teller use this technique to show that knee-jerk enviros had no clue what they were talking about.* Sad to see that some of them have not learned their lesson.
"The Greens' support for a ban on dihydrogen monoxide shows just how scientifically illiterate the party is. They would ban anything if it has a slightly scientific name, regardless of the fact that all life would cease without water," Dr Smith said.
The email on dihydrogen monoxide points out it is a colourless, odourless, tasteless chemical used in all sorts of dangerous industries and that in gaseous form it causes thousands of burns; in liquid form millions of deaths from overdose (drowning), and in its solid state causes tissue damage.
Bottom Line: Think before you react. You won't look like an ass (as often).
* Equal opportunity stupidity: Check our some republicans on tax cuts or democrats on education, health or labor issues...

You make a valid point about the stupidity of wanting to ban dihydrogen monoxide, but you ignore some of the more sensible proposals to ban truly dangerous compounds, like hydroxylic acid.
I also ignore the Red Sox. Let's stay on topic -- i.e., ridiculing (anti-/pro-) environmental superstition.
Recalibrate your sarcasm detector, david_zetland: hydroxylic acid is yet another technically-correct name for water. I think I just made your point again!
Think before you react, indeed ;-)
Ok, you got me.
My reaction, btw, was to stay on topic but it wasn't obvious that you were. (You guys are killing me on one post and teasing me on another. Confusion mounting....)
