Anti-Corporate Forum (Tuesday in SF)

Although I volunteered to speak at the corporate water event in San Francisco next week, there was no room at the inn. Since I cannot afford the $1800 registration fee, I am not going. (I criticized it as greenwashing here and here.)

Fortunately, the anti-corporate event being held tomorrow night is free, and I am going -- to hear what people have to say and (hopefully) meet Maude Barlow, who is both famous (and wrong, IMO).

Here's the prop/agit for tomorrow:

Challenging Corporate Control of Water: A Public Forum

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 (7:00pm-9:00pm)
Mission Cultural Center 2868 Mission St (at 25th St) San Francisco, CA

Next week private water corporations are coming to San Francisco for a greenwashing conference and we're not going to let them get away with it.

On Tuesday night, join a coalition of Bay Area-based organizations for a public discussion about the need for a public, community-based water policy for the twenty-first century. The event is free and will be held at the Mission Cultural Center, located at 2868 Mission St (at 25th st) in San Francisco. Speakers will include:
  • Maude Barlow, Blue Planet Project, Special Advisor to the United Nations, Chair of the Board, Food & Water Watch
  • Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch
  • Caleen Sisk-Franco, Chief, Winnemeum Wintu Tribe, Indigenous Environmental Network
  • Amit Srivastava, Coordinator, International Campaign Against Coca-Cola
We look forward to seeing you there! For more information call 415-293-9905.
